The blade is built on a shinogi-zukuri profile, the authentic ridge-line geometry of a traditional katana, with a clearly defined shinogi separating the upper flat from the beveled cutting edge below. The tori-zori curvature follows the full arc of the blade in a smooth, even bow, giving the silhouette its characteristic Japanese sweep. The tip resolves into a chū-kissaki (medium point), classically proportioned and clean. Against this traditional form, the decorative treatment is dramatic: the deep blue body carries a hamon, flowing organic cloud and flame forms that run the full length of the blade with striking visual contrast. The iori-mune spine, peaked like a roof ridge, carries the same blue finish, unifying the blade from edge to back.

The Koshirae: Built to Be Seen

The circular sukashi tsuba is worked in matte black with elaborate openwork cutouts and a gilded decorative inset on the seppadai, creating a lacy, intricate guard that anchors the transition between blade and grip. The tsuka is wrapped in a tight, even hineri-maki diamond pattern in royal blue cord over a white same-pattern ground, structured and striking in equal measure. The fuchi matches the tsuba in matte black, while the kashira cap echoes the blue of the blade and saya, creating a deliberate gradient from guard to handle.     Wanted something that would stand out from a typical collection and this delivers. The blue tone has a bit of depth to it rather than looking flat, and it photographs really well too. Solid weight in the hand, feels properly made rather than a novelty piece. Really pleased with this one.

    The blue finish is even more vibrant in person than in the photos, definitely stands out from the usual black and silver pieces. Quality feels solid overall. Docking one star because the courier left it at a neighbour’s without notice and it took me a couple of days to track it down… not the store’s fault directly, but worth mentioning. The item itself was in perfect condition once I got it.
