Kazekiri Katana Sword: the Wind Cutter Awakens

The name if this damascus katana says everything. Kazekiri (風切), the Wind Cutter, a blade so precise it could part the air itself. This is not a sword that whispers. It commands. The Kazekiri katana sword is a collision of two great traditions, the austere, line-perfect geometry of the Japanese katana form meeting the ornate splendor of Chinese imperial craft. From the first moment it catches the light, the darkened Damascus body flaring against a bright, razor-polished edge, this sword announces itself as something genuinely rare.

Two Traditions: One Blade

The Kazekiri sword is forged using traditional swordsmith methods from multi-layer Damascus steel, its itame-nagare grain flowing in long, undulating lines across the blade face, each fold a visible testament to the craft invested in its making. The acid-etched treatment deepens the body to a dramatic near-black, while the ha zone is brought to a bright, contrasting polish that defines the edge with cold clarity. The result is a blade that reads simultaneously as a working sword and a work of art, with a geometry that earns its name.

Every Damascus Sword Tells Its Own Story

Damascus steel is one of the most legendary materials in sword-making history, and its secret lies in the craft itself. Each blade is forged by folding and hammering hundreds of layers of steel together, then treated with acid to reveal the natural wavy patterns created by those layers, making every Damascus sword truly unique, no two blades ever share the exact same design. Our Damascus swords are crafted using high-quality folded steel, delivering a blade that is as beautiful as it is durable. Whether you’re a sword enthusiast or looking for a statement display piece, our Damascus swords are built to stand the test of time. Damascus Steel Katana

Steel, Grain and Shadow

The shinogi-zukuri profile is executed with conviction: a mid-to-high shinogi ridge creates a well-defined shinogi-ji that gives the Kazekiri katana its characteristic visual depth, drawing the eye from the darkened body toward the bright, mirror-polished cutting edge. The chū-kissaki is cleanly proportioned with a ko-maru boshi return, precise rather than decorative. A notare-midare hamon traces an undulating boundary between the two zones, wide and atmospheric, following the natural rhythm of the folded steel beneath. This is a blade you study. The more light falls on it, the more it reveals.

The Fittings Speak for Themselves

Every component of the Kazekiri “Wind Cutter” has been chosen to reinforce a single, coherent identity. The antiqued bronze-alloy tsuba, in a mokko-gata shape, is cast in peony relief, drawing from classical East Asian decorative symbolism. Its warm golden-brown tones anchor the entire koshirae in a unified metallic aesthetic.

The fuchi and kashira match the tsuba exactly, sharing the same bronze alloy, finish, and ornamental language, creating a continuous visual flow from guard to pommel.

The tsuka is wrapped in black diamond-pattern tsuka-ito over cream genuine samegawa, producing a strong contrast between the dark braided wrap and the light ray skin beneath, with a firm and traditional grip structure.

The saya, in natural hardwood with visible reddish-brown grain, is fitted with two military-style suspension rings (saya kanagu), each shaped as a shishi (lion guardian motif). These fittings are designed for secure attachment and control of the sageo cord in a field-oriented mounting configuration.
