Kageō Katana Sword: the Blade of the King of Shadows

Its name carries the weight of ancestral mystery. Kageō (影王), the King of Shadows, evokes those who reign in darkness, the silent masters of secret techniques, the guardians of a knowledge passed down through centuries of shadow and steel. This is not merely a katana. It is a declaration of identity, a blade conceived for those who understand that true power does not announce itself loudly, but is felt the moment a hand closes around the tsuka and the sword becomes an extension of will.

A Blade Forged in Tradition

The Kageō katana sword is built on a foundation of genuine craft. The full-tang T10 steel blade, forged using traditional swordsmith methods, is shaped into the classical shinogi-zukuri form, a ridged construction used by Japanese warriors for centuries, with a moderate tori-zori curvature perfectly suited to drawing techniques. The grooveless mu-hi face keeps the geometry clean and uninterrupted, maximizing the visual impact of the hamon across the entire length of the blade. This is a sword that does not compromise between beauty and structural integrity.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

Fire, Dragon and Shadow

The hamon of the Kageō katana is a midare temper line of uncommon visual intensity, a rhythmically variable pattern with flame-like undulations running the full length of the blade. A two-stage combination polish, mirror-bright on the shinogi-ji and stone-polished on the ji, creates the contrast that makes this hamon come alive in light. The rounded brass tsuba is cast in high relief with a dragon in full sculptural detail, its coiling body and open-jawed head reading as raw elemental force. The gilded brass habaki, decorated with black motifs, and the fuchi-kashira engraved with waves and wind complete a koshirae where every fitting speaks the same symbolic language: power, movement, and the invisible forces that govern both.

The Colors of Darkness and Flame

The visual identity of the Kageō sword is built on deliberate, bold contrast. The tsuka is wrapped in deep purple tsuka-ito over a foundation of genuine stingray leather (samegawa) on solid wood, with gilded dragon menuki catching light through the diamond hishi windows of the braid. Against this richness, the orange lacquered hardwood saya, with its yellow and blue grainy paint finish and genuine horn koiguchi, creates a chromatic tension that is anything but accidental. The multicolored sageo in orange, green, purple, and white ties every element together with a refinement that rewards close attention. At 71 cm of blade and 104 cm overall, with a 26 cm handle designed for a commanding two-handed grip, the Kageō katana sword is a piece built to be held, displayed, and never forgotten.
