Kogesa Katana Sword, the Blade That Refuses to Blend In

Its name, Kogesa (小華), translates as Small Flower, two characters that together carry an entire philosophy: the humility of 小 (ko) paired with the radiant splendor of 華 (hana). Yet there is nothing timid about this blade. The Kogesa katana announces itself through a lacquered saya whose layered coats of yellow, white and black break and overlap into petal-like formations, a fully coordinated gold koshirae, and deep teal wrapping that together form one of the most visually commanding katana designs in modern swordsmithing. Tradition, reimagined with complete confidence.

Craftsmanship Behind the Statement

The Kogesa sword is built on a T10 steel blade, forged using traditional swordsmith methods and finished to a clean, bright satin surface. At 71 cm, the nagasa sits at the longer end of the standard katana range, with a moderate tori-zori curvature that balances fluidity in drawing with authority in cutting. The shinogi-zukuri geometry is precisely ground, the shinogi line running clean from habaki to yokote without interruption, and the chu-kissaki tip is classically proportioned, with a full fukura curve that gives the point both presence and control. Available sharpened or unsharpened.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

Gold, Teal, and the Art of Contrast

Every element of the Kogesa katana koshirae belongs to a single, deliberate vision. The circular double-ring tsuba in gold-tone alloy, its face etched with a knurled diamond texture, sets the tone for a matched set that extends across the habaki, fuchi, and kashira, each sharing the same warm gold finish and geometric surface treatment. Against this, the tsuka-ito in deep teal green is wrapped in a classic hineri-maki diamond pattern over a white Samegawa underlayer, the contrast between cool green and warm gold striking a balance that is both bold and refined. Gold-tone menuki depicting a dragon, symbol of power and wisdom, anchor the grip on both sides, their relief casting visible through the precise windows of the weave.

The Saya That Commands the Room

The Small Flower katana saves its most dramatic statement for last. The saya is lacquered in a vivid yellow base threaded with black, grey, and white veining, a marbled composition that evokes flower petals in full bloom, transient, vivid, impossible to ignore. Black ends frame the body of the scabbard, grounding its color without dimming it, while the green sageo cord echoes the teal of the tsuka-ito and completes a palette that feels both natural and unexpected. At 1.25 kg and 103 cm overall, the Kogesa handles as purposefully as it displays. This is a katana for those who understand that an object of true beauty does not need to choose between art and function.
