Shima Katana Sword, Lightning Forged in Steel and Lacquer

The moment the Shima katana sword leaves its saya, it commands the room. Named for the Japanese word for “stripes” (縞), this blade is built around a single, uncompromising visual identity: high contrast, bold geometry, and the raw energy of a lightning strike captured in steel and lacquer. The striking black-and-white zebra saya is not decoration for its own sake. It is a statement of intent, setting this katana apart from every conventional production sword on the market before the blade is even drawn.

A Blade Worthy of Its Name

At the heart of the Shima katana is a high-carbon T10 steel blade, forged using traditional swordsmith methods and finished with a level of visual refinement rarely achieved at this tier. The blade presents a dramatic two-tone surface: a mirror-bright polish along the spine, shinogi-ji, and edge bevel, set against a deliberately darkened ji that amplifies every contour of the active hamon. This is a sword built for practitioners and collectors who demand both functional geometry and visual impact from a single piece.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

The Hamon, Alive and Untamed

The hamon running the full length of this Shima sword is among the most visually dramatic available on a production katana. Its notare-midare pattern combines broad, sweeping undulations with large irregular ō-midare elements, creating a temper line that surges and retreats like a storm front moving across the blade. Wide ashi projections push deep into the ha, giving the boundary zone a sense of restless, kinetic energy. The chū-kissaki finishes the tip with a clean yokote line and a bright, precisely finished bevel, balancing the blade’s wilder character with composed, classical proportion. High shinogi geometry and a mu-hi (no groove) surface deliver an uninterrupted cutting profile that performs as decisively as it looks.

Koshirae Built to Be Remembered

Every fitting on the Shima katana sword was chosen to reinforce a single, coherent aesthetic language. The round iron tsuba features sukashi openwork, a pattern of clean radiating apertures through which the gold-tone brass habaki is fully visible, creating a layered interplay of black iron and warm gold that draws the eye immediately. The tsuka combines a white samegawa base with tight, even black hineri-maki diamond wrapping, each crossing precise and consistent under deliberate hand tension. Black menuki with a dragon motif anchor the grip beneath the ito. The fuchi and kashira are matched in smooth black alloy, and the black sageo with its braided knot completes the ensemble without a single discordant element. Above all, the lacquered saya remains the defining piece: its bold zebra-stripe pattern, organic white streaks cracking across a deep black ground, carries the untamed energy of this sword from blade to scabbard, and makes it impossible to put down once held.
