Yamizuki Katana Sword (闇月) – Dark Moon

£320.00

T10 Steel High hardness and excellent cutting performance.
full tangBlade running through the entire handle for maximum strength.

Some blades carry a name that cuts before the steel does. The Yamizuki katana sword (闇月, Dark Moon) is forged using traditional swordsmith methods in high-carbon T10 steel, its natural hamon born from differential clay tempering. A silver-plated tsuba engraved with a tree motif, chiselled dragon menuki, and hand-wrapped black diamond ito complete a blade where every fitting speaks the same language: precision, intention and depth.

Yamizuki Katana Sword: Steel Born from Darkness

Its name means Dark Moon, that suspended moment when moonlight breaks through the night, neither fully hidden nor fully revealed. The Yamizuki katana sword carries this duality in every line of its blade: a high-carbon steel edge that catches the light with the same quiet intensity as a moon emerging from shadow. This is not merely a sword made to be seen. It is a blade forged using traditional swordsmith methods, built around a hamon of rare visual drama, and finished in a complete black koshirae that commands attention whether sheathed or drawn.

Craft That Honours the Steel

The Yamizuki sword is built around a full-tang T10 high-carbon steel blade, forged using traditional swordsmith methods and subjected to genuine differential hardening. The result is a beautiful hamon, an undulating temper line of organic, unpredictable movement traced in living steel. Visible ashi extend toward the cutting edge in irregular intervals, and the habuchi reveals a textural depth. This is real metallurgical work: a blade whose surface tells the story of fire, clay, and water in the language of light and grain.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

A Hamon Without Equal

What separates the Yamizuki katana from swords of lesser ambition is the sheer presence of its temper line. The hamon moves across the blade in broad, restless waves interrupted by unpredictable activity, never repeating itself, never settling into pattern. The chu-kissaki carries the hamon to its tip through a clean boshi, while the absence of any bo-hi leaves the entire blade face open, uninterrupted, devoted entirely to the display of this singular temper line. The high shinogi-zukuri geometry, with its classical iori-mune spine and moderate tori-zori curvature, frames it with the proportional authority of a blade shaped for both the draw and the eye.

The Dark Moon

Every component of the Dark Moon koshirae has been chosen to reinforce the sword’s dramatic presence. The tsuka is hand-wrapped in a tight black diamond tsuka-ito over a faux black stingray samegawa foundation, the black nodes of the skin visible between each crossing, offering grip and texture in equal measure. Silver-colored fuchi and kashira, engraved with relief motifs, frame the handle at each end, while finely chiselled silver-colored dragon menuki rest beneath the wrap on opposing faces. The circular sukashi tsuba, cast with botanical openwork, sits between them with classical composure. A double habaki (niju-habaki) in gilded brass over a contrasting inner ring secures the blade at the koiguchi with a richness rarely seen at this tier. The black lacquered solid wood saya, decorated with bamboo painting and completed with a traditional black sageo, sheathes a blade that has earned its darkness.
