The defining element of the Suijin katana is its extraordinary blade finish: a deep royal blue gradient that transitions from dark indigo at the spine to an iridescent blue-silver luminescence at the edge. This treatment transforms the steel into something that reads less like metal and more like still water under a night sky, shifting tone with every change of light and angle. The ungrooved blade face (mu-hi) presents this finish without interruption, a clean, unbroken canvas that lets the color depth breathe across its full length. The smooth brass habaki anchors the base of the blade with a warm gold accent, a deliberate contrast that makes the blue even colder, even deeper, even more alive.

A Sword You Display Like a Jewel

The saya of the God of Water katana is lacquered in a turquoise-and-black crackle pattern that replicates the veining of natural turquoise mineral stone. Black lacquer runs in irregular networks through vivid cyan-blue islands, creating a surface that looks quarried rather than crafted. Black-bound koiguchi and kojiri frame the saya at both ends with precision, while the black sageo cord sits properly knotted through the kurikata. The tsuka, wrapped in black ito in a classic hineri-maki diamond pattern over a samegawa base, is finished with geometric hishi-gata menuki in silver-white metal, echoing the rhythm of the wrap. The cherry blossom sukashi tsuba, pierced with four symmetrical openwork motifs in blackened alloy, closes the aesthetic circle: a blade that looks as though it was drawn not from a forge, but from the heart of a stone and the surface of a sacred river.
