Akarui Katana Sword (明るい) – Bright

£200.00

T10 Steel High hardness and excellent cutting performance.
full tangBlade running through the entire handle for maximum strength.

Some blades carry light within their steel. The Akarui katana sword (明るい, “bright”) embodies that name through striking contrasts: a full-tang T10 steel blade, raw wood saya, sand-colored diamond-braided ito, and black alloy fittings carved with delicate flowers. Forged using traditional swordsmith methods, this is a blade where every detail speaks with quiet, deliberate mastery.

Akarui Katana Sword: Where Beauty Meets the Blade

There is a particular stillness that comes from holding a sword dressed for both ceremony and combat. The Akarui katana sword (明るい) captures that balance precisely: a high-carbon steel blade in full shinogi-zukuri geometry, mirror-polished to a bright silver gleam, set within a koshirae where every component speaks to the other. From the pale natural wood saya to the warm amber tsuka-ito, this is a katana sword built around the conviction that strength and elegance are never opposites.

Craftsmanship That Holds Its Ground

The Akarui sword is forged using traditional swordsmith methods in T10 steel, producing a full-tang, shinogi-zukuri blade with a moderate tori-zori curvature and a clean chū-kissaki. The yokote line is sharply defined, a reliable indicator of careful polishing and quality control above the entry level. A single bo-hi runs the length of the blade, lightening the overall weight while producing the characteristic singing tone in motion. The grooved construction gives the blade a lively, responsive balance that rewards controlled, deliberate movement.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

The Iron Peony in Relief

The tsuba of the Akarui katana commands attention the moment the sword is drawn. Cast in iron and finished in a deep uniform black, it is sculpted in takabori high-relief: fully opened peony (botan) blossoms rise three-dimensionally from a field of naturalistic foliage, their petal-by-petal detailing covering both faces of the guard. The botan motif carries deep historical weight in Japanese culture, associated with nobility, prosperity, and martial refinement, and its presence here echoes the aesthetic traditions of the Higo and Owari tsuba schools. Against the bright blade and the warm amber of the tsuka-ito, this blackened iron guard creates a contrast that is nothing short of dramatic. The fuchi and kashira, also rendered in black alloy with carved floral motifs, extend the same botanical language across the full length of the handle, while a smooth brass habaki introduces a deliberate gold-tone accent at the guard assembly, anchoring the visual composition with quiet precision.

A Sword That Holds Together

Rare among production swords, the Akarui achieves genuine aesthetic cohesion: no component feels borrowed from another ensemble. The tsuka is hand-assembled over a samegawa under-wrap, then finished with a tight hineri-maki diamond wrap in warm ito, an amber tone with strong historical precedent in feudal koshirae. Black dragon menuki rest beneath the wrapping at the traditional positions, adding a mythical undercurrent beneath the hand. The pale natural wood saya, lacquered to preserve the grain, is finished with a two-tone black and white sageo cord that ties the entire palette together. At 72 cm of blade, 102 cm overall, and 1.4 kg, this is a sword with real presence in the hand, polished bright, dressed with purpose, and built for collectors who understand that a truly distinguished katana leaves nothing to chance.
