Aohazumi Katana Sword: Where Dragon and Steel Converge

Its name, Aohazumi (青刃墨), translates literally as blue blade, and from the first moment the sword leaves its scabbard, the meaning becomes visceral. The manganese steel blade does not reflect light, it transforms it, shifting from amber warmth at the habaki through violet and deep purple at the center, to a cool iridescent blue near the kissaki. This is not a surface treatment. It is a controlled thermal oxidation, a graduation of heat written permanently into the steel itself, producing a chromatic range no traditional polish or acid-etching could ever replicate.

Forged in Tradition: Finished in Fire

The Aohazumi sword is forged using traditional swordsmith methods, with a full-tang construction that ensures structural integrity from kissaki to nakago. The blade follows authentic shinogi-zukuri geometry, with a crisp, full-length shinogi ridge, a correctly formed iori-mune spine, and a balanced tori-zori curvature that gives the piece the proportional gravity of a genuine daito. A cleanly cut bo-hi groove runs the length of the shinogi-ji, reducing mass with precision while producing the characteristic whisper in motion that marks every well-made katana.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

A Dragon Told Across Every Fitting

From tsuba to kashira, the Aohazumi katana speaks a single visual language: the dragon. The circular maru-gata tsuba in antiqued copper carries a sukashi openwork dragon coiled among cherry blossoms, power and ephemerality rendered in cast relief with exceptional sharpness of detail. The matched fuchi and kashira continue the theme, the kashira bearing a full relief dragon against cloud forms, with consistent antiqued patina across all three fittings. The copper habaki carries a gold-detailed diamond mon on its face, with iridescent thermal oxidation flowing onto its surface from the blade, creating a visual continuity that makes every component feel cast from the same fire. Gilded dragon menuki anchor the hand beneath the tight black diamond hineri-maki wrapping above a samegawa substrate, completing a mounting that honors the blade it frames.

The Saya That Commands the Room

Before the blade is ever drawn, the saya announces itself. The deep mirror-black lacquered wood carries a three-dimensional polychrome relief dragon rising among sculpted clouds across its surface, a piece of lacquerwork with genuine sculptural depth, not a painted motif but a form that catches light from every angle and shifts in presence as you move around it. The black and white sageo adds a deliberate tonal contrast against the darkness of the ground. This is a sword built to be displayed with intent, a collector piece whose visual narrative is complete whether sheathed or drawn, and whose presence on a wall or stand transforms the space around it into something charged with the spirit of the blue blade.
