The Kurokin sword is built on a 1060 carbon steel blade forged using traditional swordsmith methods, ground to a classical shinogi-zukuri geometry with a defined ridge, a moderately curved tori-zori profile, and a clean chu-kissaki tip. A genuine hamon, obtained by differential tempering, traces a bold notare-gunome pattern across the blade face, a wide, rhythmic wave of hardened steel whose boundary resolves with exceptional clarity at the kissaki in a refined boshi. A clean bohi runs the full blade length, its crisp channel drawing the eye along the steel while the mirror-polished surface allows every detail of this temper line to speak with uninterrupted clarity.

The koshirae of the Kurokin katana is conceived as a unified iconographic program, every fitting speaking the same visual language. The round sukashi tsuba, pierced in organic openwork, presents a three-dimensional lion and flowers, all rendered in gold alloy against an oxidized black ground. The matched fuchi and kashira carry the same black-and-gold scheme, with gold floral and crest relief anchoring both ends of the tsuka. At the centre of it all, gilded floral menuki rest under the wrapping at precisely the positions where a swordsman’s grip would naturally fall, a detail that separates deliberate craftsmanship from decoration alone.

The tsuka is wrapped in gold-dyed leather in a tight hineri-maki diamond pattern over faux black stingray samegawa, creating a high-contrast surface that is as commanding to the touch as it is to the eye.
