Kōki Katana Sword (光輝) – Radiance

£270.00

Some blades are defined by contrast, and the Kōki katana sword embodies this perfectly: a deep black T10 steel blade alive with a genuine Midareba hamon, set against gilded copper fittings carved with dragons and unified by matching fuchi, kashira, and menuki. Black lacquered saya, diamond-wrapped tsuka, radiance in every detail.

Kōki Katana Sword: Where Radiance Meets Shadow

Its name says everything. Kōki (光輝) means radiance, the luminous glow that guides the warrior through darkness. And from the moment this Kōki katana sword leaves its scabbard, that meaning becomes visceral. A deep black T10 steel blade erupts into a turbulent, wide hamon alive with crystalline nie along its boundary, light fracturing across the steel in patterns that shift with every angle. This is not a sword that sits quietly. It commands the room, the wall, the gaze of every eye that falls upon it.

Steel Tempered: Craft Honoured

The blade of the Kōki sword is forged using traditional swordsmith methods in T10 high-carbon steel, then subjected to genuine differential tempering through clay-coating. The result is a midareba hamon of exceptional visual intensity: a wide, turbulent boundary rich with coarse nie crystals that catch light like scattered sparks frozen in steel. This is not a surface treatment. It is a metallurgical event, the hard crystalline edge zone meeting the softer ji in a border that only emerges through true heat and discipline. The full-tang construction and classical shinogi-zukuri geometry complete a blade built for those who understand the difference.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

The Gold and Black Dragon

Every fitting on the Kōki katana was conceived as part of a single, unified vision. The precision-cast brass tsuba, finished in rich gold tone, is sculpted in high-relief takabori with twin dragons coiling around the guard in full detail, scales, claws, horns, and fierce expressions rendered with clarity and depth. Sukashi openwork cuts negative space between their bodies, creating a composition that is simultaneously ornate and dynamic. The fuchi and kashira echo this gold in clean, matched form. The menuki, gilded dragons positioned beneath the black tsuka-ito, anchor the grip with thematic and tactile precision. From guard to handle, this koshirae speaks in one voice.

Darkness Finished to Perfection

The tsuka is wrapped in a firm, even hineri-maki diamond pattern using black cotton ito over a samegawa foundation whose nodular texture remains visible through each lozenge window. The black ishime-nuri lacquered wood saya, finished in a stone-texture matte that absorbs light rather than reflecting it, provides a counterpoint of restrained sophistication to the gold of the fittings. A black braided sageo, knotted near the kurikata, completes the silhouette with disciplined elegance. The brass habaki, engraved with a traditional kamon, closes the gap between blade and koshirae with a nod to the ancestral codes of Japanese swordsmithing. The Radiance this blade carries is not borrowed. It is earned, detail by detail, in every element of a sword designed to be owned by someone who expects nothing less.
