Chokutō: the Straight Sword of the Origins

Before the katana and any curved blade reshaped the art of Japanese swordsmanship, there was the Chokutō. Straight, deliberate, and uncompromising, this ancestral Japanese sword predates the 10th century, worn at the belt by warriors whose world had not yet discovered differential tempering. Its silhouette carries the memory of an older Japan, one shaped equally by Chinese and Korean influences, where the blade was a tool of pure intent. This Chokutō sword honors that lineage with the gravity it deserves.

A Blade Worthy of Its Heritage

This real Chokutō sword is built around a precision-ground, full-tang T10 steel blade, 72 cm of refined steel with a luminous silver finish and a clean, confident hamon tracing the length of the edge. The blade sits within a Japanese Chokutō sword mounting of exceptional visual coherence: a deep forest-green lacquered saya, an iron-black tsuba carved in high relief, and a gilded habaki that bridges steel and guard with warm, engraved elegance. Every component has been hand-assembled and hand-finished with deliberate attention to detail.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

Green Lacquer: Ancient Symbols

The saya is the visual soul of this Chokutō katana. Its deep forest-green lacquer, applied in the roiro-nuri tradition, achieves a glass-like luminosity that catches and holds the light. Along its surface, a flowing composition of bamboo stems and birds in flight is rendered in mother-of-pearl or white metal inlay, each leaf individually articulated, each wing-spread perfectly observed. Bamboo, in Japanese symbolism, speaks of resilience and integrity; the bird suggests freedom and the lightness of spirit. Together they form not a decoration but a meditation, set against a ground of pure, saturated green.

Iron, Gold and Living Green

The rectangular tsuba, cast in an iron-black finish over an ishime hammered ground, carries a takabori high-relief composition of swirling clouds and waves. Bridging blade and guard, the gilded habaki is engraved with a kikkō geometric lattice of tortoiseshell hexagons, a level of craftsmanship rarely encountered at this tier. The tsuka, wrapped in a tight hineri-maki diamond pattern in deep forest-green ito over a samegawa base, completes a koshirae of total visual unity. From the bamboo mekugi peg to the matched fuchi-kashira in blackened metal, every element speaks the same language: green, black, gold, and the quiet permanence of a blade made to be contemplated for generations.
