Damascus Steel Katana

£250.00

Damascus Steel Wavy pattern with balanced strength.
full tangBlade running through the entire handle for maximum strength.

Some blades carry their story in the steel itself. This Damascus steel katana, forged using traditional swordsmith methods, reveals a three-tone polish along the blade: a pale gray edge, shifting midtones at the shinoji, and a deeper dark spine at the mune. A gilded brass tsuba with floral motifs and a firefly, genuine rayskin tsuka, and hand-lacquered black saya complete a Damascus sword built for those who demand both edge and elegance.

Damascus Steel Katana: Where Fire Meets Form

Every Damascus steel katana tells a story written in fire and iron. This blade carries that story openly, in the flowing grain of folded steel that spirals across its surface like the memory of every hammer blow that shaped it. The dramatic interplay of a chemically darkened body against a mirror-polished cutting edge is not decoration. It is the visible signature of genuine pattern-welded construction, a craft where layered steel billets are forge-welded, drawn, and folded until the grain becomes something entirely one of a kind.

Craftsmanship Written in Layers

This Damascus sword is built on a foundation of genuine pattern-welded steel, alternating high-carbon and low-carbon billets repeatedly folded and forge-welded using traditional swordsmith methods. The result is a blade whose ayasugi-hada to itame-hada grain, flowing cedar-wave formations breaking into tighter wood-burl patterns, is utterly unique to this sword and no other. A deep chemical patina darkens the ji body to a near-black charcoal tone, while the ha (cutting edge) is brought to a bright silver mirror polish, producing a three-tone depth that shifts with every shift of light.

Every Damascus Sword Tells Its Own Story

Damascus steel is one of the most legendary materials in sword-making history, and its secret lies in the craft itself. Each blade is forged by folding and hammering hundreds of layers of steel together, then treated with acid to reveal the natural wavy patterns created by those layers, making every Damascus sword truly unique, no two blades ever share the exact same design. Our Damascus swords are crafted using high-quality folded steel, delivering a blade that is as beautiful as it is durable. Whether you’re a sword enthusiast or looking for a statement display piece, our Damascus swords are built to stand the test of time. A Blade Built to Command

The geometry of this Damascus katana reinforces its presence at every level. The shinogi-zukuri construction features a pronounced high-shinogi ridge (taka-shinogi) that divides the blade face with structural authority, a late Edo shinshinto-inspired profile that balances elegance with rigidity. The tori-zori curvature reaches its deepest point at mid-blade, producing a sweeping arc that gives the sword its commanding visual line. The chū-kissaki tip is cleanly proportioned with a sharply defined yokote line, and the full blade face is uninterrupted by any bo-hi groove, leaving the entire Damascus grain pattern exposed from spine to edge without a single break.

Koshirae Built for the Eye and the Hand

The fittings of this real Damascus steel sword are composed as a unified visual statement. The circular brass tsuba is cast in high relief (takabori), its warm antiqued gold surface presenting an asymmetric naturalistic composition of floral motifs and blossoms, accompanied by a finely detailed dragonfly, showcasing an elevated level of craftsmanship and artistic refinement. On the fuchi, a second dragonfly motif is also present, reinforcing the naturalistic theme across the fittings. Against this single brass accent, the rest of the koshirae maintains a refined visual continuity: the fuchi and kashira are also crafted in brass with the same warm gold tone as the tsuba, creating a unified metallic aesthetic across the fittings.

The tsuka-ito is tightly wrapped in black hineri-maki, forming a clean diamond pattern over genuine white samegawa, whose nodular texture remains clearly visible beneath the wrap, adding contrast and depth.

The saya is finished in roiro-nuri mirror-black lacquer, its jet-black surface reflecting the surrounding environment like polished ink. The black-and-white braided sageo completes the composition, reinforcing the balance between dark and light elements.

Across the fittings, the presence of dragonfly motifs adds a layer of natural symbolism rooted in Japanese aesthetics. In Japan, the dragonfly (tombo) is traditionally associated with strength, agility, and victory, and is often regarded as a noble symbol of perseverance and forward movement. In parallel, Japanese culture also holds deep reverence for the firefly (hotaru), a symbol of ephemeral beauty, transience, and mono no aware , the emotional awareness of impermanence. Though distinct from the dragonfly, both creatures share a poetic connection to nature, fleeting moments, and seasonal elegance, often evoking nostalgia and quiet contemplation.

The result is a Damascus samurai sword designed to be displayed, admired, and remembered.
