Real Hamon Katana

£270.00

T10 Steel High hardness and excellent cutting performance.
full tangBlade running through the entire handle for maximum strength.

A real hamon katana earns its name in a single moment: when a T10 high-carbon blade, coated in clay and plunged into frozen water, emerges with a hamon pattern no two swords will ever share. Forged using traditional swordsmith methods, this hamon sword pairs that genuine clay-tempered line with gilded brass fittings, white stingray skin tsuka, and a hand-lacquered black saya, every detail composed with the same precision as the steel itself.

Real Hamon Katana

This real hamon katana is not assembled from parts, it is composed, like a painting where every element answers every other. The choji-midare hamon running the length of the T10 steel blade, its anarchic, irregular clove-head formations punctuated by isolated yo (葉), drifting islands of nie that float within the ji like embers caught in the steel, revealed by clay-quenching, is not decoration, it is evidence of a thermal event that transformed steel into something harder, sharper, and irreversibly different from what it was before.

Clay-Tempered Steel: Genuine Hamon

What separates a genuine hamon from an acid-etched imitation is physics. When clay is applied to the blade and the steel is quenched in frozen water, the thermal shock creates a differential hardening that no chemical process can replicate: a harder edge, a softer spine, and a hamon pattern that is unique to each blade. This katana hamon, obtained through traditional clay-quenching on a T10 high-carbon steel blade forged using traditional swordsmith methods, carries that authenticity in its very crystalline structure. The undulating boundary line you see is not printed, it is the physical record of fire, clay, and ice.

Its choji-midare character, wild, asymmetric clove-shaped peaks with scattered yo emerging spontaneously across the hamon, places this blade in direct lineage with the great Bizen tradition, where Ichimonji masters of the Kamakura period made this anarchic vitality their signature. No two yo appear in the same place. No two blades will ever share the same pattern.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Tradition Carved in Damascus Steel

The blade itself is built in iori-mune configuration with a high-set shinogi line and a clean, well-defined chū-kissaki, every structural element reflecting the historically correct proportions of a katana designed for both presence and purpose. No bo-hi interrupts the panel: the mu-hi configuration preserves the full structural mass of the blade.

A Koshirae Built as a Work of Art

The maru-gata brass tsuba serves as a sculptural focal point, intricately decorated with eagles, floral motifs, and flowing wave and cloud patterns. Its warm metallic surface captures light from every angle, giving depth and movement to the composition while defining the sword’s visual identity.

The habaki, crafted in gilded brass with subtle black engraving, creates a precise and refined transition between blade and guard, reinforcing structural cohesion and visual balance. Above it, the tsuka is constructed from natural wood and wrapped in genuine white ray skin (samegawa), offering both authentic texture and traditional craftsmanship. The tsuka-ito is tightly braided in a brown diamond pattern, adding an earthy contrast that grounds the design.

The fuchi and kashira, also in brass, are adorned with finely carved peony and chrysanthemum motifs, extending the floral symbolism into the handle while maintaining continuity with the overall decorative language.

The saya, made from hardwood and finished in deep black lacquer, provides a clean and minimalist counterpoint, its smooth surface emphasizing restraint, depth, and elegance.

Together, these elements form a unified composition of brass, wood, ray skin, and lacquer—balanced, intentional, and rooted in traditional inspiration, creating a katana designed for both display and appreciation.
