The multi-stage patination applied to this Damascus steel produces a chromatic range that has no equivalent in standard production swords: royal cobalt blue pools in the lower-carbon steel layers, warm copper-amber glows through the higher-carbon passages, and purple-violet interference tones trace the ridgeline and polished bevel like the shimmer of Dragon’s Scales caught under sunlight. The application is flawless, uniform from munemachi to the clean, well-proportioned yokote of the chū-kissaki, with no bleeding, no streaking, no compromise. The moderate tori-zori curvature, balanced and classical, gives the blade its natural arc and ensures it draws and handles with the composed authority the design demands.

The Dragon: Complete in Every Detail

The koshirae of this katana is not an assembly of decorative parts. It is a unified visual narrative. The circular cast bronze tsuba carries a high-relief ryū-un composition, swirling cloud scrolls parting to reveal a dragon’s head. The fuchi continues the dragon-wave motif in engraved relief, thematically locking the guard and collar into a single program. Cast gilded menuki shaped as dragons rest in their traditional staggered positions beneath the black diamond-pattern tsuka wrapping, their forms pressing subtly into the grip with every hold. The saya is the crowning element: solid wood wrapped in black leather, its clean uninterrupted surface providing a bold and deliberate contrast to the ornamental richness of the fittings above, grounding the entire koshirae in a refined, unified darkness. A brass habaki with geometric surface detailing and gilded dragon menuki complete a sword that was conceived, from tip to tail, as a single statement of elemental power.
