full tangBlade running through the entire handle for maximum strength.

Before the Wakizashi existed, there was the Kodachi sword, the refined short blade that defined Japanese swordsmanship during the Heian period. Kodachi Sword: Ancestor of the Wakizashi

Before the wakizashi existed, before the Muromachi era gave the samurai his companion blade, there was the kodachi sword. Born in the Heian period (794 to 1185), shaped after the tachi and worn at the side, the kodachi stood at the crossroads of elegance and lethality. With its characteristic blade length of 40 to 65 cm, it embodied a refinement that would define Japanese sword culture for centuries. This piece honors that legacy, forged using traditional swordsmith methods and dressed in materials worthy of its ancient lineage.

Damascus Steel: Rosewood, and Aged Bronze

This kodachi katana is built around a Damascus-style folded steel blade, where the genuine patterning of the steel flows across the surface in organic waves of itame and mokume hada, wood-burl and wood-eye grain visible to the naked eye. No print, no decal. A real folded structure that catches light differently at every angle. Paired with a matched rosewood handle and scabbard in warm reddish-brown tones, and completed by cast bronze fittings with an antiqued patina, creating a timeless and authentic look.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

A Blade Built with Purpose

The kodachi sword length of 52 cm sits precisely within the classical range that defined the form through the Heian period, compact enough for swift movement, substantial enough to command presence. The shinogi-zukuri construction gives the blade a defined ridge line and a broad, polished ji that showcases the folded steel hada in full. A full-length bo-hi runs cleanly along the upper portion of the blade, its sharp edges producing a characteristic sound in motion and lending the silhouette a visual sharpness that extends from habaki to kissaki. The chū-kissaki is geometrically sound, with a well-defined yokote line and a moderate tori-zori curvature of approximately 1.5 to 2.0 cm, functional and elegant in equal measure.

A Unified Object of Austere Beauty

The rosewood tsuka, approximately 20 cm in length and finished in its natural grain without wrapping or lacquer, is held in the Chinese dao-style cylindrical profile, a deliberate departure from standard Japanese mounting that gives this kodachi sword its distinctive East Asian character. Cast bronze ring collars at the guard and mid-handle create a coherent matched set with the fuchi and the warm-toned brass habaki, which seats firmly at the hamachi and provides a clean contrast between polished metal and aged bronze. The rosewood saya mirrors the handle in both material and finish, completing an ensemble where every element was chosen to reinforce a single vision: the quiet authority of a blade that carries centuries of Pan-Asian sword tradition in its grain, its curve, and its silence. At 1 kg and 75 cm overall, this is a piece that rewards both display and handling, one that earns its place in any serious collection.
