A skull tsuba with serrated edges, gray diamond-braided ito, and a demon-painted saya lacquered in ash gray: darkness, given form.

Kokuyami Katana Sword: Where Darkness Becomes Steel

Its name is written in two kanji: 黒, black, and 闇, darkness. Together they form Kokuyami, a word that does not simply describe a color but invokes a primordial force, the silence before creation, the shadow that outlasts destruction. This is not a katana that asks for attention. It commands it. From the black blade body to the oni-painted scabbard, every surface of this Kokuyami katana sword carries the same uncompromising presence, a darkness made coherent, intentional, and strikingly beautiful.

Crafted for Those Who Prefer the Dark

The Kokuyami sword is built on classical katana geometry: shinogi-zukuri construction with a clean tori-zori curvature, a chū-kissaki tip balanced between aggression and control, and an iori-mune spine that follows centuries of refined Japanese form. The blade is forged using traditional swordsmith methods in T10 high-carbon steel, then subjected to a darkening treatment that transforms the entire blade surface into a deep, uniform black finish of striking visual intensity. The result is a blade presence so deliberate it reads less like a finish and more like a statement.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

Every Surface, One Vision

The Black Darkness aesthetic of the Kokuyami is not applied to one element and forgotten. It is executed across every component of the koshirae with rare visual discipline. The skull-motif iron tsuba features a custom organic silhouette, asymmetric and unsettling, with sukashi openwork cutouts at the eye-socket positions and a serrated sawtooth perimeter that evokes something ancient and dangerous. The matched black alloy fuchi and kashira frame a tsuka wrapped in a tight hineri-maki diamond pattern using cool gray braiding, with the black samegawa visible through each opening. At the junction of blade and handle, a silver-colored habaki adds a refined counterpoint, its clean metallic surface catching the light with quiet precision against the surrounding darkness. The menuki beneath the wrapping take the form of a black dragon, a creature of mystical force anchored precisely where the hands hold the blade.

The Saya That Carries the Legend

The scabbard of the Kokuyami katana is where the piece becomes something singular. Lacquered in deep black wood, it is covered with hand-applied sumi-e ink-wash artwork depicting oni and yokai, supernatural creatures drawn from the oldest layers of Japanese legend, rendered in grey, black, and white with the fluid authority of Japanese ink painting. Calligraphic characters accompany the figures, grounding the imagery in language as well as myth. This is not decorative surface treatment. It is a narrative painted directly onto the object, making every scabbard a unique expression of the same darkness the blade embodies. For the collector who understands that a katana is not merely a blade but a complete visual and philosophical object, the Kokuyami demands a place where it can be seen.
