The Raikaryū Katana Sword, Where Lightning Meets the Dragon

In Japanese mythology, two forces stand above all others: Rai (雷), the lightning that splits the heavens, and Ryū (竜), the ancient dragon sovereign of the elements. The Raikaryū katana sword is their union made steel, a blade that does not merely reference this duality but embodies it across every surface, every fitting, every carefully composed detail. From the blackened spine etched with storm-born motifs to the coiling golden dragon crowned upon the tsuba, this is a katana built to command presence, on a wall, in hand, or simply in the room.

A Blade Carved from Myth

The Raikaryū sword carries a bold lightning-and-thorned-vine etching, tracing the path of the storm along the spine. The saya reveals an elaborate multi-dragon pictorial scene, figures rising through clouds and flame in dynamic, almost living composition. Forged using traditional swordsmith methods in black T10 steel, sharpened or unsharpened at your choice, with a full tang and a kuro-migaki two-tone finish, this blade fuses mythological ambition with genuine craft discipline.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Uncompromising Quality

A katana is more than a sword, it’s a symbol of precision, discipline, and Japanese heritage. Our katanas are crafted with respect for traditional sword-making standards, offering you a reliable, durable, and beautifully finished blade. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced collector, you’ll find the perfect katana for your needs.

Katana

A Koshirae That Tells One Story

The sculptural takabori-style tsuba presents a dynamic dragon-and-cloud relief in blackened alloy, its coiling body and flowing details selectively highlighted in gold-tone brass accent, a level of detail exceptional at any tier. The ornate brass habaki, engraved with a geometric kikko tortoiseshell pattern, elevates a component that most production swords leave entirely plain. The black tsuka-ito, wrapped in a precise hineri-maki diamond pattern over faux black stingray samegawa, unifies the handle in a single dark, purposeful aesthetic, completed by a matched fuchi-kashira set in blackened metal, cloud-and-wave relief at the fuchi, and a sculptural dragon or shishi head at the kashira. The gray and black lacquered wooden saya, adorned with a dragon fresco, transforms the scabbard into a final canvas, so that even sheathed, the Raikaryū is already making its statement.

Steel, Shadow, and Gold

The blade geometry of the Raikaryū katana is built on the most enduring katana form: a shinogi-zukuri cross-section with a high shinogi ridge that catches light at every angle, a moderate tori-zori curvature that delivers an authentic draw feel, and a balanced chū-kissaki medium point with a clean, well-defined yokote. The absence of a fuller (mu-hi) is a deliberate choice, giving the decorative artwork an uninterrupted canvas across the full blade width. The deep chemical blackening on the upper faces dissolves into a high-polish mirror edge, a contrast that makes the Thunder Dragon motif visible from across a room.
